1	（便の状態確認後）便に粒状の物がなくなったので、今からこの水薬を飲んでください。腸をきれいにするお薬です。この水薬の作用で、あわや粘膜が消えて、検査がしやすくなります。	(After stool evaluation) Since there are no more solid pieces in the stool, please take this liquid medicine now. It will help clean out your intestines. This liquid medicine will help to remove any foam and mucus* membranes and make the examination easier.
2	それでは、順番が来たら検査室に移動します。それまで、この検査着に着替えてお待ちください。ズボンは穴が開いた方をお尻側にして、はいてください。	When we are ready for you, you will be moved to the examination room. In the meantime, please change into this examination gown and wait. When putting on the pants, make sure the hole is at the back.
3	このベッドに仰向けに寝てください。血圧計と心電図の機械を付けます。ベッドを少し上げます。	Lie down on your back on this bed. I am going to hook you up to a blood pressure monitor and ECG machine. I am going to raise the bed slightly.
4	このカメラを肛門から入れます。カメラの先端から水や空気が出るようになっています。腸の中には途中3か所折れ曲がっているところがありますが、そこを通るときには痛み*があるかもしれません。もし、痛みがあれば遠慮なく言ってください。では、検査を始めます。左を向いて、お尻をこちらに向けてください。お尻を少し持ち上げてください。	I am going to insert this camera through your anus. Water and air are pumped from the tip of the camera into the bowel. In the bowel, there are three curved areas. You may feel some pain when it passes those areas. If you feel any pain, please do not hesitate to let us know. Now, let’s start the examination. Please face the left, with your buttocks facing this way. Lift your hips slightly.
5	今から麻酔のゼリーを肛門に塗ります。力が入っていると塗りにくいので、リラックスしてください。口から「あー」と息を吐くと、リラックスできます。	I will now apply the anesthetic jelly to your anus. It is difficult to apply if you are straining, so please relax. Exhale* through your mouth and say “Ah” to relax.
6	自然に呼吸を続けてください。次にカメラがはいります。もし、途中でお尻が痛ければ麻酔のゼリーを追加するので、おっしゃってください。今、カメラを腸に入れていっています。	Continue breathing naturally. Now, I am going to insert the camera. If you feel pain around your back passage during the procedure, please let us know so that we can add some more anesthetic jelly. I am inserting the camera into your bowel now.
7	では、仰向けになってください。ベッドが狭いので、落ちないように気をつけてください。両足を少し曲げて、右足を左足にかけてください。腸の曲がり角のところをカメラが通ります。痛ければおっしゃってください。この画面で自分の腸の様子が見られますよ。	Now, please lie down on your back. The bed is narrow, so be careful not to fall. Bend both knees slightly and put your right leg over your left leg. The camera is going to pass the curved area. If it hurts, please let us know. You can see the inside of your bowel on this monitor.
8	おへその下のあたりを通ります。	It is passing just below the belly button.
9	ここにポリープがあります。大きさは８ミリくらいあります。	I see a polyp here. It’s about 8 mm in size.
10	これは放置しておくとよくない種類のポリープのようですね*。今日取ってしまった方がいいと思います。他にもポリープがないか確認してから、このポリープを切除しましょう。	This seems to be a type of polyps that could potentially be harmful if left untreated.* I think it is better to have it removed today. Let’s check to see if there are any other polyps, and then we will come back and remove it.
11	大きく息を吸って、ゆっくり吐いてください。楽にしてください。カーブを曲がったので、少し痛く感じるかもしれません。	Take a big breath in, and breathe out slowly. Make yourself comfortable. It has gone through the curve, so you may feel a little pain.
12	取った方が良いポリープは 1 つだけのようです。	It seems that there is only one polyp that needs to be removed.
13	大腸は痛みを感じないので、切除しても痛くありません。内視鏡の先からワイヤーを出して、ポリープの根元をはさみ、微量の電流を流して切除します。切除したポリープは内視鏡を使って回収します*。すぐ終わります。モニターでこの処置を見ることができます。はい、終わりました。では、右側を下にして寝てください。	Polyp removal is not painful because the lining of the colon does not have the ability to sense pain. A wire is passed through the tip of the endoscope to clamp the base of the polyp, and a weak electric current is applied to remove it. The removed polyp is then collected using an endoscope.* It will be over quickly. You can see this procedure on the monitor. OK, we are done. Now, please lie with your right side down.
14	仰向けに寝て、足を組んでください。	Lie on your back and cross your legs.
15	最後のところなので、もうすぐ終わります。終わりました。先ほどのポリープ以外は気になるところはありませんでした。では、カメラを抜きます。	This is the last part, so we’re almost done. We are done. Other than the polyp I saw earlier, there is nothing unusual. I will now pull the camera out.
16	お疲れさまでした。では、お尻を拭いて、血圧を測って終わりです。お尻が痛かったら言ってください。今日はポリープを切除したので、すぐに食事はしないでください。今晩からお食事は取れますが、お粥・うどんなどの消化の良いもの*を食べ、２～３日は刺激物、脂っいものは控えてください。それからアルコール類も１週間は飲まない方がいいでしょう。	You did a great job. Now, we are going to wipe your buttocks, take your blood pressure, and then you are done. If you have any pain in your back passage, please let us know. Since the polyp was just removed today, do not start eating right away. You can start eating tonight, but eat something that is easy to digest* such as porridge or udon noodles. Also, avoid greasy foods and any foods that would stimulate the bowel for a few days. It is also best not to drink alcohol for a week.
17	心電図と血圧計を外します。ベッドが下がります。ゆっくり起きてください。今日は重労働、お腹に力を入れる作業、ジョギングやゴルフなどはやめてください。お疲れさまでした。	We are going to remove the ECG monitor and blood pressure cuff. I am going to lower the bed. Please get up slowly. For today, do not do any heavy labor, anything that places a lot of pressure on your abdomen, jogging, or golf. You did a great job.

通訳のポイント

1* mucous = UK spelling, mucus = US spelling
4* ここでは「痛み」と表現しているのでpainを使っていますが、実際の通訳であまりpainを連発すると患者さんが不安になるので、「少し痛いかもしれません」という場合には、discomfortと言ってもいいかなと、個人的には思います。
5* exhaleのアクセントは、辞書によるとaにありますが、YouTubeを見るとexにアクセントを置いて発音している人も多くいます。
10*、13*　これらの表現はなかなかすぐに思い付かないと思うので、クイックレスポンスで覚えておいた方がいいかもしれません。
16*　「消化の良いもの」や「お腹にやさしいもの」は、easy on your stomachとも表現できます。
