Suzy

Hello. It’s been raining since this morning. It must’ve been difficult for you to come in today. How are you feeling?

患者
患者

My wife/husband gave me a ride here. I guess my condition is settling down, except that I often cannot get up in the morning. I sometimes don’t feel like getting up all day.

How do you feel about taking the medicine?

患者
患者

I feel like the medicine makes it harder to get up in the morning. I’m taking it, but…

I see. Are there any days when you don’t take your medicine because you can’t get up in the morning? As I have said before, it is important to keep taking your medication for the best results.

Sometimes I forget.

But you know, Iʼve been thinking about something recently. We’ve been talking through an interpreter, with me speaking in English and you in Japanese. I wonder if we really talked about the same things, about my disease and symptoms, although we speak different languages. Itʼs not that I donʼt trust the interpreter.

For example, how can I know that the “apple” I know in English is really the same as “apple” in Japanese?

Even if I say “apple” to you, what you are thinking of could be “banana” for me. The world is controlled by an enormous force beyond language. Language is worthless.

Do you feel that there is a gap between what you feel and what I understand about your illness and symptoms? Could you tell me a little more about what exactly you think?

患者
患者

I think you don’t know much about the force beyond language. There’s no way to flee from this force, no matter how much medicine I take.

Since starting the medication I feel so sluggish I can’t do anything.

So the force beyond language is overwhelming to you. You said that you used to have a hard time sleeping because of the force talking to you.

患者
患者

My sleep is not good, just as before. I don’t think it’s the disease. Even now the force talks to me through my wife/husband, although it doesn’t seem to happen so often.

How do you feel now that it happens less often?

患者
患者

The discomfort I used to feel has reduced a little, but I feel somewhat empty. I feel sluggish, I don’t want to do anything.

The pain of the force talking to you has decreased, but your body feels sluggish and unmotivated. It may be that all the tiredness you have been experiencing is coming out at once.

It is not uncommon to feel tired and unable to get up after starting treatment, as you are going through now. It seems to me that now is the time to get enough rest.

If you get enough rest, little by little, you will often feel less tired and more energetic. It is important to get a good night’s sleep and rest, so start by exposing yourself to sunlight in the morning. It is okay to lie down during the day, but it would be nice if you could avoid taking too many naps.

It is also true that the side effects of the medication can make you feel sluggish. However, the fact that the pain of the force talking to you is decreasing suggests that the medication is working, so let’s see how it goes. If you continue to feel sluggish or have trouble waking up in the morning, we can change your medication, so please talk with me again.
